The Influence of Extra-Curricular Activities

Many students take advantage of the opportunity to participate in sports or other extra-curricular activities at MHS.  Why might students choose to not participate in sports or other extra-curricular opportunities?  What can students learn from taking part in these activities?  How might a team sport or event influence a person differently than an individual one?

  1. A student might choose not to do said extra-curricular activity, because they may not have money required, they might not want to send the time or want to get up to do it. Students can learn come these activities by interacting with peers and teachers to learn new skills and abilities, they can also physically grow in strength and endurance depending on what activity is taken. A team sport can influence a person differently than an individual one, by motivating other's around them to do better and to work harder, sometimes it's a competition to be better, faster, harder, and stronger than your other teammates. Other times it's for the fun of the game, you might push yourself harder if you have a team you might let down, than on your own. -Cedric McClean Auberg

  2. I believe that the students who don't participate in sports or the extra-curricular activities either don't like the sports or activity or they are not physically fit for the activity or sport. Another reason on why they might not participate is they don't like the other people who are involved in it. They also may not like working with others, since sports are pretty much team activities, you don't just play alone.
Students can benefit from sports or extra-curricular activities because it helps your teamwork skills and working well with others. You may not like all the people who are on your 'team' but it is important to develop team-working skills because once you get into the real world, you will have to work with other people and not just yourself.
You learn how to work with others in a team sport and in an individual sport you learn to push yourself harder to make yourself better.

Some people don't like being with other people or they don't like sports. People could learn team work and get strength. It looks good on a resume and you could get a job about that activities. You can also get scholarships to collages. People in team activities will learn how to work with others. In individual activities you really are by your self and it dose not use as much team work.

  5. Students might choose to not participate in sports or extra-curricular activities because, they do not want to stay after school or before school to play sports or do more school work or be in any clubs. I was in cross country so I did participate in a sport. Many students can learn teamwork, better math skills, better grammar, or just hang out with friends. In cross country Teamwork is not the BEST thing to learn but we still are a team, if one of your team members gets hurt while you are running with them you keep running you do NOT stop to help them. A team sport or event may influence a person differently then an individual one because, team sports make people work together wether they like it or not whereas individual sports or events do not.

  6. Extra-Curricular Activities, in my opinion, are very crucial in a students future. They teach responsibility, teamwork, and to treat others with respect. Some students choose not to participate in these activities because they may not have the money, they may not have the time, or they may not find anything they like. Students can learn vital skills they will use later in life such as, teamwork, responsibility, and respect. A team sport has more influence than an individual sport because they learn they must treat each other way they want to be treated. If one person from that team doesn't do their part, the whole team suffers.
So all in all these activities are very beneficial.

  7. One reason students do not participate in sports or other extra-curricular activities is because they are not interested in sports or other activities. Another reason they might choose not to participate in sports or other activities is they might not have time to do the activities. Students can learn about teamwork if they do sports or activities. They can also learn social skills and they can make friends by doing sports and activies. When you do team sports, you learn about teamwork and you make new friends. In individual sports you don't rely on other people. In team sports you have to trust the other people that they will make the shot or stop the shot.

  8. Maybe some people just don't like to do exercise, we can learn from this extra-curricular activities, like how to work in a team and how to try harder to get to the finish line. I think when you are in a team sport its a lot harder to play, because everyone thinks different so everyone its going to have their own thought.for a individual sport its more easy because now you can think your own play and do it,but of course you learn something good from both.

  9. Participating in extra-curricular activities is good for making more friends. They are go for collage resume and getting a job. most extra-curricular activities not including sports have opportunities for community serves (silver cord). With team sports you have the chance to make more friends. In most individual sports here are more there is more than one person but you do not have to communicate.

  10. Why I think students might not choose to participate in sports or extra-curricular activities is that they may just not feel influenced to do so. By the coaches of the sports, or the creator of the extra-curricular activity, these kids might feel that they just are not right for this activity. For example, they are not physical enough for them, or they hate the people in the club. The students might learn from this activity is that it could be fun, or it could not. You could have fun with your friends that could be in the group, or you could feel completely alone with no one that you know in your group. I think a team sport or activity influence a person in a team more, because you are sharing it with them instead of sharing it with no one.

  11. I think that students choose not to participate in extra-curricular activities or sports because they think, "Well, if I don't have to do something, then I won't". They may also not have an intrest in the sport(s) or activity. Being involved in these things can teach you multiple skill such as leadership, responsibility, teamwork...ect. It is also a great way to get active, exercise, and stay out of trouble! Team sports may influence you more because you are with other people to help you out along the way. You can make new friends and maybe you are doing the activity with people you are already friends with. -Sean Broderson

  12. Many students don't take advantage of these sports and extra curricular activities offered to them as they may not be able to participate due to transportation issues, financial issues, or with sports they may have medical issues. However those students who do participate can learn valuable skills. With student council kids can learn leadership and give their ideas which may help better the community. With football or basketball they learn that they can't do it all by themselves and after learning how to they will find out that that working in a quality team will out out a better result than doing something by themselves. Team sports are valuable in that they allow people (especially teenagers) to get to know one another and appreciate what each person can do for the team. This can lead to people expanding their friend base which is a necessity in high school. Team sports will also help "guilt" people into bettering themselves as they will have to hold themselves accountable for their mistakes.

  13. Some reasons why students may choose not to participate in sports or other extra-curricular activities/opportunities is that they may not have the financial flexibility to aquire another expense into their lives. They may also not know the people who are involved in what they would like to go into and may be too timid to get involved or they may not like to work with people and like to complete things by themselves. The things that students can learn from taking part in these activities are to work with people they may not enjoy to be around. They can also, learn how to work in a team (teamwork). Plus, it can also help them get out of their shell (get over their timidness). The way that a team sport or event influence a person differently than an individual one is that it teaches the importance of "everyone" in a group/team, and in an individual sport you only think about yourself and how only "you" can win.

  14. I say that why many students don't choose to participate in extra-curricular activities or sports because they don't feel like they have to do it. Plus most kids these days want to stay on the computer. What students can learn from sports are teamwork and skill for the sport. They will also learn to get along with others. The reason a sport with more fun with others than with one, because they can hang out with friends. If their friends are on their team they have a reason to go to the sport. I say kids should do what they feel like doing to stay active.

Students can learn how to work as a team with people they don't necessarily like. People will learn different skills in the game.
In a team sport kids will learn how to depend on others and work with them. In a individual sport kids will learn how to trust there own instinct and they will have no one else to rely on. -Tyler Yates

Students like to participate in sports and other extra-curricular activities because it give them a chance to do something they like or want to learn. They also do these activities to make friends and find the people that they will hang with for the rest of the year. In these many activities students can learn a new talent or make a talent better. Students can also learn how school learning can relate to there out side life/world. On a team you learn how to get along with someone even if you don't like them and you also have to trust that they are going to do what they need to do to improved. In an individual activity its all up to you and no one else.

  17. Some students might not choose to join a sport or extra-curricular activities because they might not have and spare time, another possibility for not being in a sport or a club is because the might be already in some sort of club. Every different sport requestes different skills for example Football (Soccer) requires you to have good foot eye coordination and you need to be able to think very fast and carefully. American football requires you to have to think fast and be good at catching and interceptive footballs. Baseball, receive and identify information and fast speeds and again, hand eye coordination.
So basically your working on many different skills with out knowing. in soccer (my main sport) you need to be able to play with your team and trust them to do the part the have to do and not be a persanalist, if your playing an individual sport you only have your self to trust, I person am very influenced with im playing soccer with people that have more experience than me because I know if I make a single mistake my team will instantly blame me, so basically it motivates me to do my best and move around even more.

  19. Some reasons why students may choose to not partake in sports or other extra-curricular actives is because maybe they don't think they're good enough, fit enough, or just shy. Some of them may not have time for sports or other activities after school because they have a busy schedule. A person can learn many things from an extra-curricular activity including learning how to involve themselves, knowledge, sportsmanship, and teamwork depending on what the thing is they are doing. Sports will teach you teamwork, sportsmanship, and give you a knowledge of the sport. An extra curricular activity like the debate team will get you involved, give you a knowledge of what you're debating about, and teach you how to work independently/in a group. A team sport or event will influence a person differently than an individual because they are more accustomed to working with other people. They will most likely excel in a group of two or more people. Whereas a person who did not participate in any team sports/activities will most likely excel while they are by themselves working.

  20. Extra-curricular activities are very important because many people have nothing to do and they stay at home. It helps them get involved with the school. They also get to spend more time with their friends. This also decreases people doing drugs and getting into trouble. Most activities ask that the student pass all their classes to be able to be in the sport that they want. Then after classes they have fun because their doing something they enjoy. Getting good grades will also help you get the career you want. It will also help you get in to the collage or university that you desire.

  21. There are many reason a student might not choose extra-curricular activities like, they don't like to stay after school. A lot of students like to go home and play video games so they don't want to stay after school when they could be home. Others can't stay after school for the extra-curricular activities because they might have family problems or they have to watch some kids. Most people judge people by what extra-curricular activities they choose or if they don't choose any activities when they might not be able to because of family problems. They could just be out of money and need to be home to help around the house. The final reason they might not choose to do extra-curricular activities is because they are might have a sickness that causes them to be physically incapable of doing extra-curricular activities. They could learn many things from the activities but the most important one is teamwork. An individual sport or event focuses mainly on your own strengths and weaknesses but a team sport or event will work very well covering each others weakness.

Students could choose not to participate in activities for multiple reasons. A lot of times people aren't very comfortable around other people. Some people feel better alone than when they do with a group. Students can learn skills that you need in life. You need to know how to get along with people. You can't always put yourself first. When you're part of a team or an extra curricular activity that involves multiple people, you can't help but get to know them. You sort of become a family over time, and the bonds you make can last for a really long time.

Some students may choose to not participate in extra-curricular activities because of time. Some kids may not like spending extra time at school, or they don't have a ride, money, family problems, or it could just not be of their interest. From being in these activities, you learn teamwork. Working together comes very easily to some people, others it isn't as easy. Being in a team can change someone. You make lots of new friends that you can depend on. It makes you feel as if you are a part of something. You also learn other peoples point of view towards life. Dealing with different people make you a stronger and more open person.

Extra curricular activities are offered to students, but some may choose not to be involved in them because of issues that the students has personally. These issues may be due to financial troubles, issues with their health, or personal intrest in the activity. There can be many advantages with being involved in extra curricular activities. When it comes to sports, team work, strength, and endurance. If they take part in a club or group, they also learn team work. A team event can influence a persons view on a another person, the people on the team, and the game itself. It can change the views spiritually and emotionally.

i think that some people might not join activities because that they feel that they don't fit in. Some might feel that they may be made fun of because they aren't athletic. Kids could not have the motivation to better there life, like as if there life was so bad that they can't do anything. A team sport will help people learn to communicate. It can also allow them to make friends easier now that they are involved in something. Instead of sitting alone they are with a team that are always together. extra-curricular activities give you something to do something to get up in the morning for.

  28. Sports and extra-curricular activities!

Some people don't do sports or other extra-curricular activities because they don't really fit in. When someone feels like they don't fit in they might not be outgoing and want to join something. I think the main thing people can learn from sports or extra-curricular activities is definitely teamwork. You learn how to work with other people and that is very important for the future. When you get a job you will have to use many of the same techniques. A team or sport event can influence someone differently than an individual one in many ways. One of which is that there is many other people's points of view also. Not everything is you and you also have to rely on other people. You learn trust, teamwork, confidence, and many other things through sports or extra-curricular activities.

A lot of students choose not to participate in certain activities because they might be scared of outcomes ( such as injuries) or might be shy, some could just not be interested at all. The skill you can learn in doing activities are teamwork, to get along with people, and the golden rule; treat others as you wish to be treated. Meaning if someone who's on your team that might not be the greatest player, still take the chance, pass them the ball, if that were you, you would want that wouldn't you?

I think, students might not decide to join extra-curricular activities or sports at MHS because they might think they aren't good enough. They also may have never tried and believe they won't be able to start. I know from a personal point of view that it is some what intimidating when you start something new and everyone else has already been doing it for so long. Students can learn many things from being in sports. As a team, it makes you rely on people and you also learn how it is for people to rely on you. It can make you push yourself for the better to do your very best. It teaches you about winning and losing. Most importantly it teaches you about responsibility and loyalty to your team or group. I have done both team and individual sports and I have learned a lot from both of them, but from team sports I have learned about life and the real world. In an individual sport you push yourself and only yourself. You never need to pick anybody up or pump up the team. It's just you by yourself. In a team you learn all the things I listed above. It also influences your friendships, not only with friends and people your age but with your coaches and if you are like my family it has brought us closer and something we can all relate to. Team sports can really help shape your life for the better.

Some extra-curricular activities such as sport are not interesting to some people. They prefer less people interaction or less of a physical activity. Some things that can be learned from doing actives is teamwork and social skills. Seeing people work together can inspire people to do something wonderful.

A student may choose not to participate in an extra curricular activities because the may not be able to physically or mentally, or maybe they dont have the spare time to do so or they might just lack the motivation to do so. Students can learn many things from these activities. Extra curricular activities build confidence and character and give you a better work ethic. Some major thing sports can teach though is discipline, and mental and physical toughness, if you're both mentally and physically tough and have discipline life will seem much easier. A team sport can influence an individual in many ways. When you're part of a team you develop a bond with your teammates because you and your team are in the same situation you come to practice every night and work, sweat, and exhaust your selfs to a point where you cant go another inch and then your team motivates you to go that inch. I believe that hard work in a team environment can change a person.

People might not participate because they have to many classes they don’t have any time for them. Another thing that might be the problem is they cant find anyone to do it with them. Another reason is probably because they cant do them physically. People can learn a lot of things from sports or extra curricular activities like teamwork working with people you might not want to work with. A team sport makes you part of other peoples benefit so if you do something bad it doesn’t only hinder you but it hinders others to. That makes you want to actually try

A reason that people might not do sports is because they don't like them. They also may want to focus on school more. What they can learn is to make good decisions. I think that a person who works as a team can teach other people how to work as a team and to help other people work as a team. When it comes to sports team work is vary important. If they don't join they are missing out on lots of things that they could learn. You learn team work, responsibility, patience, and work ethic in extra curricular activities. Another thing that the might learn is how to work with others better, and maybe getting along with other better. Students may have to work to support their families and not have time to participate in activities. Other students just might not want to be involved. There are many things you can learn from sports such as team work, trust, and reliability. In a individual sport you wont get the complements you would from your team mates in a team sport. Those mates will encourage you and complement you on the stuff you did well. This can be a positive and a key in winning any sport.

Some kids chose to do sports, and some just chose not to. Either because there lazy, or they will not. Also then they my chose to do so, or they just might chose, not to do so. Watching a team will have a influence, on people. Also influence them to make a difference, and show others, what it means to make a difference, in our community. It can also then, influence others to make organizations to support, and then make donations, to support, them as well.

The two main reasons most students who do not do extra-curricular activities are laziness, and disinterest. However other reasons can include other people in the activity, discouragement, a poorly managed schedule, and a low skills set. Students can learn any number of things by doing extra-curricular activities, but some of the givings are life skills such as responsibility, and work ethics. A team activity or sport can benefit a person greatly by obviously building team skills. They can also help improve just normal social skills. Team activities can also motivate some people more because you do not want let your team down. However some people like me are more motivated by competition, and henceforth push themselves harder than if there were more team spirit. People who do individual sports tend to learn how to think for themselves, and live on there own better.

    One reason students may choose not to participate in sports or extra curricular activities is they may not want to. Students may also not be able to afford the things needed to participate in that activity, for example;
they need an instrument to be in the band evan though the school offers a school owned instrument, they still charge a rental fee.
What can a student learn from these activities you may ask. Well there are many things students can learn. one thing is teamwork. For the band you need good teamworking skills so that the band sounds good. You need to all have the same tempo that way the band stays together. (tempo is the speed of the music for all you non-band geeks out there). another thing students can learn is independence. Some activities require you to work by yourself.
There are many ways that a team sport will influence someone differentially then an individual sport. One is team sports promote teamwork and getting along, were as individual sports promote individuality. Another is with a team sport you can share the win with your teammates. In an individual sport you get the win all for your self.
